Note: 
If you want to make the hat longer to completely cover your ears, repeat round 13 a couple more times before moving on to the rounds of single crochet. You can make a larger version that would fit most men by using an H hook.

Single Crochet…SC
Half Double Crochet…HDC
Front Post Double Crochet..FPDC
Reverse Single Crochet…RSC

Pattern:
Begin - Ch 4, join with a SlSt to form a circle.

Round 1 - Ch 2 (Counts as HDC here and throughout). 11 HDC through circle, working over tail. Join with a SlSt at top of Ch2. Pull tail snugly to close circle. (12 HDC)

Round 2 – Ch 2. HDC in the back loop only (BLO) of the same stitch. 2 HDC in the BLO of each stitch around. Join with a SlSt at top of Ch2. (24 HDC)

Round 3 – Ch 2. HDC in the same stitch. FPDC around the next stitch. *2HDC in next stitch, FPDC around next stitch. Repeat from * 10 more times. Join with a SlSt at top of Ch2. (24 HDC, 12 cables)

Round 4 – Ch 2. HDC in the same stitch. HDC in next stitch. FPDC around the FPDC below. *2HDC in next stitch, HDC in next stitch, FPDC around the FPDC below. Repeat from * 10 more times. Join with a SlSt at top of Ch2. (36 HDC, 12 cables)

Round 5 – Ch 2. HDC in the same stitch. HDC in next 2 stitches. FPDC around the FPDC below. *2HDC in next stitch, HDC in next 2 stitches, FPDC around the FPDC below. Repeat from * 10 more times. Join with a SlSt at top of Ch2. (48 HDC, 12 cables)

Round 6 – Ch 2. HDC in the same stitch. HDC in next 3 stitches. FPDC around the FPDC below. *2HDC in next stitch, HDC in next 3 stitches, FPDC around the FPDC below. Repeat from * 10 more times. Join with a SlSt at top of Ch2. (60 HDC, 12 cables)

Round 7 – Ch 2. HDC in the same stitch. HDC in next stitch. FPDC around next stitch. HDC in next 2 stitches. FPDC around the FPDC below. *2HDC in next stitch, HDC in next 2 stitches. FPDC around next stitch. HDC in next 2 stitches. FPDC around the FPDC below. Repeat from * 10 more times. Join with a SlSt at top of Ch2. (60 HDC, 24 cables)

Round 8 - Ch 2. HDC in the same stitch. HDC in next 2 stitches. FPDC around the FPDC below. 2HDC in next stitch, HDC in next stitch. FPDC around the FPDC below. *HDC in next 3 stitches. FPDC around the FPDC below. 2HDC in next stitch, HDC in next stitch. FPDC around the FPDC below. Repeat from * 10 more times. Join with a SlSt at top of Ch2. (72 HDC, 24 cables)

Round 11 - Ch 2. HDC in next 2 stitches. FPDC around next stitch. HDC in next 3 stitches. FPDC around the next stitch. *HDC in next 3 stitches. FPDC around next stitch. Repeat from * 22 more times. Join with a SlSt at top of Ch2. (72 HDC, 24 cables on each round.)

Round 12 - 13 - Ch 2. HDC in next 2 stitches. FPDC around the FPDC below. HDC in next 3 stitches. FPDC around the FPDC below. *HDC in next 3 stitches. FPDC around the FPDC below. Repeat from * 22 more times. Join with a SlSt at top of Ch2. (72 HDC, 24 cables on each round.)

(Crocheting in the round from this point. Do not join rounds)

Round 14 – Ch1. SC in same stitch as joining and in every HDC and FPDC around. (96 SC)

Round 15 – 17 – Continue to SC around for three more rounds. SlSt into last stitch. Use a stitch marker if needed to mark the beginning of each round. (96 SC each row)

Round 18 – Ch 1. RSC in each stitch around. RSC in beginning RSC to join. SlSt into SC below on wrong side to secure. FO. Weave in beginning and ending tails.
